This section of Hart Avenue is clustered with bars and restaurants. It is partly occupied by on-street parking with little landscaping treatment. There is scope to enhance the streetscape of this road section. The original project design includes relocation of the existing on-street parking, footpath widening, repaving, landscaping treatment and part-time pedestrianisation. However, views of the local stakeholders are in the opposite when the local community was consulted in late 2004 / early 2005. Some supported the project which, in their view, could help revitalize the area. Nevertheless, some other strongly objected to the project, with serious concern on the traffic and street management implications of the part-time pedestrianisation proposal. On balance of these different views, the part-time pedestrianisation element would not be pursued as part of the priority project while other improvement measures including footpath widening and streetscape enhancement could remain. The local community will be consulted on this project again before implementation.
