1 stall per 55 - 65 households or
approx. 40 - 45 stalls per 10 000 population equivalent (actual
figure to be adopted within this range to be decided
according to circumstances of individual cases e.g. the
higher rate of provision around 1 stall per 55 households
to be adopted for markets with bulk sales).
Net
floor area of stalls : Large = 16.6m2 ; Mini = 5.0m2
Optimum
mix : Large : Mini = 1 : 4
Av.
net floor area for one stall : 7.32m2
Av.
gross floor area required for one stall (m2) : Single-storey
= 16.24 ; 2-storey = 20.05
Site
area (m2/person) based on 40 - 45 stalls per 10 000
population : Single-storey = 0.065 - 0.073 ; 2-storey = 0.040
- 0.045
Optimum
site area for one market (about 200 stalls) : Single-storey
= 3 000m2 ; 2-storey = 2 000m2
Notes :
- Market sizes of areas less
than 2 000m2 (i.e. less than 200 stalls) may be
considered on individual viability basis.
- Should the optimum mix
between large and mini stalls change, the market floor
area requirements should also be adjusted accordingly.
- If market forms part of an UC/RC
complex, the optimum site area requirement is 3 000m2.
- Average gross floor area
requirements for market stalls are based on generalized area requirements derived from existing UC markets.

(ii)
In Public Housing Estates
|
As
a general guideline market stalls will comprise
approximately 12% of total retail floor space. This
percentage should be taken as a starting point only. The
exact percentage for the estate should be modified and
determined according to its special circumstances i.e.
availability of competing facilities, minimum viable
market size, accessibility, estate size etc. |
| (b) Cooked Food Stalls/Centres
(i)
In Private Residential Areas (excluding HOS/PSPS areas)
(ii)
In Industrial Areas
|
No
set standard; cooked food centres may be built by USD and
RSD to resite on-street cooked food stalls/hawkers.
Notes :
- Site allocation for CFCs is
normally made on a temporary basis. However, when a clear
demand has emerged and the CFC can be combined with
compatible G/IC facilities, site allocation can be made
permanent. Each case has to be considered on its own
merits.
0.06m2
net site area per worker.
Notes :
- The provision of CFCs in
industrial areas should be adjusted on individual
district basis to take account of the local demand for
CFCs and the availability of other types of eating
facility such as factory canteens, fast food shops and
restaurants within the area concerned.
