Non-Civil Service Vacancy



Research Officer (Geo-informatics)

Salary : HK$42,678 to HK$47,178 per month, depending on qualifications and experience

Entry Requirements :
Candidates should have –

(a) a master’s degree from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent, in the subject of Geomatics, Geoinformation Science, Geo-informatics, Geographic Information System (GIS), Remote Sensing, Information Science;
(b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [See Note (2)];
(c) at least two years’ relevant working experience in undertaking research on and/or implementation of photogrammetry / remote sensing / satellite positioning / GIS / 3D modelling / 3D GIS / and mobile computing projects. Candidates with relevant experience of similar nature will also be considered;
(d) good knowledge and familiar with the use of computer software, for instance, GIS and remote sensing software such as ArcGIS family products, ENVI or other similar packages, 3D GIS application, remote sensing and satellite positioning devices and its relevant data processing software. Good knowledge, skills and research / project experience in remote sensing, Building Information Modelling (BIM), location-based service (LBS) and Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) will be an advantage; and
(e) good command of written and spoken Chinese and English; good inter-personal skills; self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team; good research attitude and strong knowledge of research methods.

Notes : 

(1) Candidates are required to submit a portfolio of not more than 10 pages to illustrate their competence and experience related to the requirements.
(2) For the purpose of appointment of non-civil service contract staff, ‘Grade E’ in English Language (Syllabus B) in previous HKCEE is accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.

Duties : To provide technical support and input to the daily operation (i.e. maintenance, training and enhancement etc.) of GIS / 3D / mobile computing and related systems / projects; to undertake research in applying photogrammetry / remote sensing / LBS / GIS / 3D GIS / 3D modelling to facilitate and enhance planning work; to manage and implement various projects, including supervising and managing contractors and to organize and conduct training courses; to prepare tender / quotation documents.

Terms of Appointment :
Successful candidate will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for one year.

Fringe Benefits :
An end-of-contract gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the full contract period with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will equal 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period. Rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), annual leave, maternity leave, sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance.
