Major Community Facilities

The major existing GIC facilities under the "Government, Institution or Community" ("G/IC") zone include
the existing Lo Wu Correctional Institution in Area 6 and the Lo Wu Saddle Club in Area 17, proposed
Potential Activity Centres in Area 4 to accommodate youth camp, adventure training facilities and other
related facilities, as well as fire station cum ambulance depot and two service reservoirs in the hilly
terrain in Area 5. Other government uses include a district police headquarters in Area 9, a hospital,
a polyclinic and a general clinic/health centre in Area 28 to provide medical services for the Area and
the wider population. A cluster of recreational and sports/leisure related facilities will be provided in
Area 10 near Fung Kong Shan Park whilst a sports ground/sports complex will be developed in Area
1 in the northwestern part of the Area. A district library, a sports centre, a community hall and some
social welfare facilities (an integrated children and youth services centre, an integrated family service
centre, a child care centre and a social security field unit and a complex of residential care home for the
elderly) are planned in Area 29 (Figure 25). Seven primary schools and five secondary schools will be
provided within the Area to meet the needs of the population. These school sites are in close proximity
to residential developments to allow convenient access to students.
