Future Development
Development works in Tai Po have largely been completed. The future planned developments include:
y Proposed sports centre at Ma Wo Road to the south of the Town Centre
It has been included in Leisure and Cultural Services Department's “Five-Year Plan for Sports and
Recreation Facilities” to prepare for its implementation under the 2017 Policy Address.
y Conversion of Tai Po Government Secondary School into an Arts Centre
It is a Signature Project of Tai Po District, aims to enhance the art and cultural development of the
District. A range of arts facilities for use by locals, as well as office and studio space at affordable
rates for professional arts groups in Hong Kong will be offered at the Arts Centre.
y Proposed public housing development along and near Chung Nga Road to the north of the Town
Centre
It comprises three sites including two along Chung Nga Road, namely Chung Nga Road West and
Chung Nga Road East, and one adjoining them. Two primary schools forming an integral part of the
proposed development will also be provided.
y Proposed sports centre, community hall and soccer pitches near Plover Cove Road in the Town
Centre
It will mainly include an indoor heated swimming pool, an indoor heated training pool, a jacuzzi, ball
courts, a community hall, two 7-a-side hard surfaced football pitches and a carpark with 200 parking
spaces for private cars. Construction of the project commenced in early 2017 for completion in 2021.
Looking Ahead
In the past forty years, Tai Po has experienced rapid changes and has developed from a rural market town
to a modernised new town with good living environment and adequate community and infrastructural
facilities. It is worthy to note that Tai Po is among one of the new towns where on the one hand,
development has taken place and on the other disturbance to the natural areas has been kept to the
minimum. This will remain the major planning objective for Tai Po New Town in the future.
