Lantau is being transformed into a ‘Double Gateway’ connecting Hong Kong to the Bay Area
and the world and a dynamic key node where international, regional and local visitors, talents
and goods converge. Leveraging the locational advantages and the dynamism, there will be 24
ample opportunities for creating new business platforms at this bridgehead location.

As envisioned under Hong Kong 2030+, a Western Economic Corridor will become a major
growth pole for Hong Kong’s future development. The various major developments at North
Lantau will be important components of this Corridor.

At this bridgehead location, apart from attracting visitors, diversified business and work

opportunities will be provided. The positioning and planning of the major commercial
developments in North Lantau are guided by the following three economic development
concepts to form synergy, avoid direct competition with one and other and capture the
opportunities arising from the new transport infrastructures. They are:

z ‘A New Platform for the Pillars’ – to develop Lantau into a platform for the continued
growth and development of pillar industries in Hong Kong.

z ‘A Thriving Community’ – to develop a healthy, sustainable, diverse and vibrant

community by shaping Lantau as a place for living, work, business, leisure and study.

z ‘A Bridge to Tomorrow’ – to promote Lantau as a showcase of Hong Kong’s innovation
potential to the world.
