Our Staff
Staff Development Our PerfOrmance
To widen our staff’s exposure and keep them abreast of the current issues and global trends on
planning development, we undertook the following activities in 2017:
z 2 130 members of staff attended 101 job-related courses and seminars organised by the
Department;
z 1 118 members of staff attended courses and seminars run by the Civil Service Training and
Development Institute and other government bureaux/departments;
z 76 members of staff attended 10 Occupation Safety and Health (OSH) related courses and
seminars organised by the Department;
z 107 members of staff attended 46 OSH-related courses and seminars run by the Civil
Service Training and Development Institute and other government bureaux/departments;
z 135 members of staff attended 29 local conferences; and
z 48 members of staff attended 19 conferences/seminars/duty visits outside Hong Kong
(including the overseas theme visit to Copenhagen, the 10th Making Cities Liveable
Conference in Brisbane, Australia, the 12th Conference on Urban Development and 90
Planning, and the Annual National Planning Conference in Dongguan, China).
Staff Relations and Welfare
We maintain close communication with our staff by:
z holding Departmental Consultative Committee
meeting with representatives from 26 grades at regular
intervals to provide a channel of communication
between the staff and the management;
z having meetings with representatives of staff associations
to discuss issues of concern to staff;
z publishing a staff newsletter, ‘Planning Voice’, to report
achievements, news and views of staff; and
z setting up an electronic discussion forum to facilitate
open discussion among staff on health, environment,
information technology, personal sharing, sports/
recreation and work/office-related issues.
