habitat of diverse natural species and offers a lot of leisure
facilities and activities. Suitable management measures
should be explored to reduce the impact of the current
activities in Pui O and Shui Hau on the natural habitats,

More proactively, the Government has earmarked $30
million under the Environment and Conservation
Fund in 2017-18 for ‘Nature Conservation in South

Lantau’, of which $10 million has been allocated under
the Environmental Education and Community Action
Projects, which aim to enhance the public awareness and

knowledge to improve the environmental problems.

2. Cultural and Heritage Preservation

Lantau has a distinctive cultural and heritage background. The large amount of listed buildings 30
and declared monuments in Lantau are attractive to tourists and visitors for exploring the
gripping narratives of the area.

For instance, Tai O, the traditional fishing village with iconic stilt houses and its unique
traditional festive events, in particular The Dragon Boat Water Parade of Tai O, has attracted
many visitors every year. Improvement works at Tai O will promote its legacy and improve the
living environment for local residents.
